The Serum Institute of India (SII) recommends using another vaccine in an emergency situation after the Covishield vaccine. According to sources, Bharat Biotech has been recommended by the expert committee to approve indigenous corona vaccine Covaxin for emergency use. This will be the country’s first indigenous corona vaccine. Covaxin has just been approved by the Expert Committee. However, DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) is yet to get its final approval.
A day earlier on Friday, the coronavirus vaccine Covishield, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, was approved for emergency use. According to news agency ANI, the Expert Committee of India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has recommended approval for the emergency use of Covaxin, the corona vaccine of Bharat Biotech. Bharat Biotech company that makes it is based in Hyderabad.
Earlier, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan made a big announcement on Saturday about the Corona vaccine. He said that in the first phase, 3 million people will be given free vaccination across the country. Harshvardhan appealed on Saturday not to be misled by rumors about the coronavirus vaccine’s safety and effectiveness. Also, he said that no agreement will be reached with any protocol before approving it.
The Union Minister said that in the first phase of vaccination, free vaccines will be made available to the highest priority people, including one crore health workers and two crore frontline personnel. He said that details of how the vaccine will be administered to 27 crore people by July are being finalized on a priority basis. These beneficiaries include people over the age of 50 and those younger than those already suffering from any disease.
Harshvardhan tweeted, in the first phase of coronavirus vaccination, free vaccines will be provided to the priority beneficiaries across the country. He said that these include one crore health workers and two crore workers of advance more. The Union Minister said that how the vaccine will be given to 27 crore priority beneficiaries by July is being finalized. Harshvardhan also reviewed the rehearsal of the Covid-19 vaccination at the Urban Primary Health Center in Daryaganj.
